I am fascinated by fish. Not fish in a tank. Fish in the wild. Fish in a tank, birds in a cage, both are unnatural. Fish in the wild live in plane we can really know nothing about. They breathe water. They fly through their air.
These shots are all from the University of Alberta Botanic Garden just outside Edmonton, Alberta. We spend a lot of time there and the Japanese Garden is a favourite place. We go and I sit and I look at everybody looking up at the trees. I look at down at the fish flying around in that mirror world and I'm caught, unable to surface.
I want to know more. I want to be a fish.
We finish off the series staring down into the inverted world. Life in liminal space. Fish at the very top of their atmosphere. The very bottom of ours.
